Restorations

The first part, and sometimes the most difficult part of any restoration, begins with you the customer coming into the shop to discuss your options as to how you want the finished scooter to look, this includes everything from the choice of paint scheme to what tyres to be used, no detail is overlooked no matter how big or how small as we say this can sometimes be the hardest part of the process as the options are endless. At WS9 we will endeavour to give as much help and advice as possible drawing on all our experience, but ultimately the final decision is left with you. We will do our utmost to make you feel at ease as much as possible as it can be quite daunting. Once all the choices have been made we then give you a time scale for the build which we will keep to without exception as we do not believe in unrealistic promises where you the customer is still waiting for their scooter six months after the agreed finish date. Once all this has been finalized the restoration process can begin. Bearing in mind changes can be made along the way such things as seat type, colour, engine spec etc, indeed we have yet to restore a scooter yet where the customer hasn’t changed their mind at some point. So this is not a problem, obviously we would not be able change things like the colour once the paint process has begun.

We can then commence the 2nd phase of the restoration, the STRIP DOWN.
This normally takes around 2 days. This involves the scooter being completely stripped to the bare frame. During this part of the restoration we take the utmost care to salvage as much of the original scooter as possible. This is in order to keep the scooter as original as we can. All parts reused will be either zinc plated chromed, polished or powder coated.

Once the scooter has been stripped we can then move to the third phase of the restoration, SAND BLASTING.
This normally takes around 7-10 days.
This involves the frame and all the relevant panels being shot blasted, using only the finest sand as to minimise any damage this may cause. Once it has been shot blasted then any repairs are carried out such things as panel beating, welding, brazing, filling etc.

Once we are 100% happy with the condition of the scooter and its panels we can move to the 4th phase of the restoration, the DRY BUILD.
This will normally takes around 3-5 days.
This involves the scooter being completely dry built this is enables us to make sure all the panel work has the optimum fit possible making any adjustments along the way. Once we are totally satisfied with the dry build the scooter is then dismantled.

Then we can begin the 5th phase of the restoration, the SPRAYING.
This normally takes 6-10 weeks
This involves the frame and panels being sent to the spray shop. Whilst they are being painted. All the other parts to reused are sent to the various workshops for zinc plating, chroming, and powder coating and polishing. During this phase the engine rebuild is also carried out.

Once the scooter has been painted we can begin the 6th phase of the restoration, THE BUILD.
This normally takes around 2-3 weeks.
This involves the scooter being painstakingly rebuilt from the ground up taking the utmost care. Once it is built it is then sent back to the paint shop to have any nicks or scratches that may have been caused during the build repaired and is also given a final polish.
Once the scooter is completely built it is then set up to its maximum
This is done on our Dyno jet rolling road this helps us find any minor faults the scooter may have and rectify them before it is handed over to the customer.

At any point of the restoration the customer is more than welcome to pop in or call to see how it is going, to ask any questions or as in most cases o take pictures of the process as it is carried out in order to keep a visual record for themselves.
